Izrazito brojni i vrijedni arheološki nalazi, koji potvrđuju važnost i kontinuitet postojanja i funkcioniranja hvarske luke i naselja kroz razdoblje od gotovo 3000 godina, pronađeni su tijekom netom okončane prve faze sustavnih podvodnih arheoloških istraživanja podmorja.

Radove je provela tvrtka za arheološka istraživanja "Kantharos" iz Hvara u suradnji s Gradom, a projekt je financiran od Županije splitsko-dalmatinske temeljem programa razvoja, zaštite i valorizacije pomorske baštine.

- Najraniji pronađeni arheološki artefakti datiraju iz prapovijesnog razdoblja i ukazuju na intenzivno korištenje luke u tom razdoblju te komunikaciju s grčkim kulturnim krugom. Brojni nalazi iz razdoblja antike, poput amfora tipa Lamboglia..., te posebno iz kasne antike dokazuju razvoj i širenje grada u tim razdobljima.

Dio nalaza navodi na zaključak da je Hvar u kasnoj antici bio jedna od bitnijih točaka obrambeno-nadzornog sustava, koji se sastojao od više punktova stvorenih u svrhu kontrole pomorskih putova i uspostave pomorske dominacije na Jadranu i istočnom Mediteranu u šestom stoljeću od Bizanta, često nazivanog Justinijanovim limesom – kazao je Eduard Visković, diplomirani arheolog iz "Kantharosa".

Također su, kako doznajemo, vrlo vrijedni nalazi srednjovjekovnih uljanih svjetiljki te bogatstvo nalaza iz vremena mletačke uprave.

Na odabranim pozicijama unutar gradske luke i oko otočića Galešnik, odnosno lokacijama koje pokazuju najveću gustoću i vrijednost materijala, nastavit će se sondažna arheološka istraživanja, kojima bi se mogla otkriti kompletna stratigrafija kulturnih slojeva luke.

Osim što se od njih očekuje da će na svjetlo dana iznijeti iznimno vrijedne arheološke artefakte, ta istraživanja bi mogla dati ključne podatke o povijesti i arheologiji grada Hvara, pa i područja srednje Dalmacije uopće.

Izrazito brojni i vrijedni arheološki nalazi, koji potvrđuju važnost i kontinuitet postojanja i funkcioniranja hvarske luke i naselja kroz razdoblje od gotovo 3000 godina, pronađeni su tijekom netom okončane prve faze sustavnih podvodnih arheoloških istraživanja podmorja.

Radove je provela tvrtka za arheološka istraživanja "Kantharos" iz Hvara u suradnji s Gradom, a projekt je financiran od Županije splitsko-dalmatinske temeljem programa razvoja, zaštite i valorizacije pomorske baštine.

- Najraniji pronađeni arheološki artefakti datiraju iz prapovijesnog razdoblja i ukazuju na intenzivno korištenje luke u tom razdoblju te komunikaciju s grčkim kulturnim krugom. Brojni nalazi iz razdoblja antike, poput amfora tipa Lamboglia..., te posebno iz kasne antike dokazuju razvoj i širenje grada u tim razdobljima.

Dio nalaza navodi na zaključak da je Hvar u kasnoj antici bio jedna od bitnijih točaka obrambeno-nadzornog sustava, koji se sastojao od više punktova stvorenih u svrhu kontrole pomorskih putova i uspostave pomorske dominacije na Jadranu i istočnom Mediteranu u šestom stoljeću od Bizanta, često nazivanog Justinijanovim limesom – kazao je Eduard Visković, diplomirani arheolog iz "Kantharosa".

Također su, kako doznajemo, vrlo vrijedni nalazi srednjovjekovnih uljanih svjetiljki te bogatstvo nalaza iz vremena mletačke uprave.

Na odabranim pozicijama unutar gradske luke i oko otočića Galešnik, odnosno lokacijama koje pokazuju najveću gustoću i vrijednost materijala, nastavit će se sondažna arheološka istraživanja, kojima bi se mogla otkriti kompletna stratigrafija kulturnih slojeva luke.

Osim što se od njih očekuje da će na svjetlo dana iznijeti iznimno vrijedne arheološke artefakte, ta istraživanja bi mogla dati ključne podatke o povijesti i arheologiji grada Hvara, pa i područja srednje Dalmacije uopće.
