Olupina drevnog broda, pronađena nedaleko od izraelske obale s teretom iz cijelog Sredozemlja, pokazuje da su trgovci sa zapada pristizali i nakon islamskog osvajanja Svete Zemlje.

Da li je do potonuća broda došlo zbog oluje ili neiskusnog kapetana teško je reći. No koji god da je razlog, trgovački brod izgrađen od drveta jele i oraha s delicijama iz dalekih zemalja potonuo je u plićini, blizu obale današnjeg izraelskog obalnog gradića Maagan Michaela prije više od 1200 godina.

Bilo je to u vrijeme kada je većinom kršćansko Bizantsko carstvo gubilo kontrolu nad tim područjem u istočnom Mediteranu, dok je islam širio svoj utjecaj, smatra Deborah Cvikel, pomorska arheologinja sa Dveučilišta Haifa i voditeljica istraživanja.

"Povijesne knjige govore da je tada trgovina gotovo stala (...) da nije bilo međunarodne trgovine, već plovidbe samo unutar teritorijalnih voda, no čini se da to nije tako", rekla je Cvikel.

"Ovdje imalo olupinu velikog broda, mislimo da je bio dug oko 25 metara, i nakrcan je robom iz cijelog Sredozemlja", dodaje arheologinja.

Predmeti pronađeni na brodu pokazuju da je pristao na Cipru, Egiptu, moguće u Turskoj i možda na sjevernoafričkoj obali.

Neki od predmeta su na sebi imali simbole kršćanske bizantske crkve, dok su drugi imali natpise na arapskom. U olupini je pronađeno oko 200 amfora s maslinama, smokvama i datuljama.

Istraživanje lokaliteta provodi Izraelska zaklada za znanost, Zaklada Honor Frost i Institut za pomorsku arheologiju teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M.

Izraelska obala puna je drevnog brodovlja. Olupine su dostupnije nego drugdje zbog plitkog mora i pješčanog dna koje bolje očuva artefakte.

Olupina drevnog broda, pronađena nedaleko od izraelske obale s teretom iz cijelog Sredozemlja, pokazuje da su trgovci sa zapada pristizali i nakon islamskog osvajanja Svete Zemlje.

Da li je do potonuća broda došlo zbog oluje ili neiskusnog kapetana teško je reći. No koji god da je razlog, trgovački brod izgrađen od drveta jele i oraha s delicijama iz dalekih zemalja potonuo je u plićini, blizu obale današnjeg izraelskog obalnog gradića Maagan Michaela prije više od 1200 godina.

Bilo je to u vrijeme kada je većinom kršćansko Bizantsko carstvo gubilo kontrolu nad tim područjem u istočnom Mediteranu, dok je islam širio svoj utjecaj, smatra Deborah Cvikel, pomorska arheologinja sa Dveučilišta Haifa i voditeljica istraživanja.

"Povijesne knjige govore da je tada trgovina gotovo stala (...) da nije bilo međunarodne trgovine, već plovidbe samo unutar teritorijalnih voda, no čini se da to nije tako", rekla je Cvikel.

"Ovdje imalo olupinu velikog broda, mislimo da je bio dug oko 25 metara, i nakrcan je robom iz cijelog Sredozemlja", dodaje arheologinja.

Predmeti pronađeni na brodu pokazuju da je pristao na Cipru, Egiptu, moguće u Turskoj i možda na sjevernoafričkoj obali.

Neki od predmeta su na sebi imali simbole kršćanske bizantske crkve, dok su drugi imali natpise na arapskom. U olupini je pronađeno oko 200 amfora s maslinama, smokvama i datuljama.

Istraživanje lokaliteta provodi Izraelska zaklada za znanost, Zaklada Honor Frost i Institut za pomorsku arheologiju teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M.

Izraelska obala puna je drevnog brodovlja. Olupine su dostupnije nego drugdje zbog plitkog mora i pješčanog dna koje bolje očuva artefakte.

Olupina drevnog broda, pronađena nedaleko od izraelske obale s teretom iz cijelog Sredozemlja, pokazuje da su trgovci sa zapada pristizali i nakon islamskog osvajanja Svete Zemlje.

Da li je do potonuća broda došlo zbog oluje ili neiskusnog kapetana teško je reći. No koji god da je razlog, trgovački brod izgrađen od drveta jele i oraha s delicijama iz dalekih zemalja potonuo je u plićini, blizu obale današnjeg izraelskog obalnog gradića Maagan Michaela prije više od 1200 godina.

Bilo je to u vrijeme kada je većinom kršćansko Bizantsko carstvo gubilo kontrolu nad tim područjem u istočnom Mediteranu, dok je islam širio svoj utjecaj, smatra Deborah Cvikel, pomorska arheologinja sa Dveučilišta Haifa i voditeljica istraživanja.

"Povijesne knjige govore da je tada trgovina gotovo stala (...) da nije bilo međunarodne trgovine, već plovidbe samo unutar teritorijalnih voda, no čini se da to nije tako", rekla je Cvikel.

"Ovdje imalo olupinu velikog broda, mislimo da je bio dug oko 25 metara, i nakrcan je robom iz cijelog Sredozemlja", dodaje arheologinja.

Predmeti pronađeni na brodu pokazuju da je pristao na Cipru, Egiptu, moguće u Turskoj i možda na sjevernoafričkoj obali.

Neki od predmeta su na sebi imali simbole kršćanske bizantske crkve, dok su drugi imali natpise na arapskom. U olupini je pronađeno oko 200 amfora s maslinama, smokvama i datuljama.

Istraživanje lokaliteta provodi Izraelska zaklada za znanost, Zaklada Honor Frost i Institut za pomorsku arheologiju teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M.

Izraelska obala puna je drevnog brodovlja. Olupine su dostupnije nego drugdje zbog plitkog mora i pješčanog dna koje bolje očuva artefakte.
