USS Palo Alto je tanker sagrađen godinu prekasno da bi sudjelovao u Prvom svjetskom ratu. Kako je čelik u to vrijeme bio deficitarna roba, kao i uvijek kad život ovisi o oklopu i naoružanju, Palo Alto napravljen je od betona. Konzerviran je do 1929., da bi od tada služio kao splav za zabavu. Savezna država Kalifornija pokušala ga je još jednom obnoviti 1980. godine, baš u vrijeme kad je na našem dijelu Jadrana počeo trend samogradnje jedrilica, od kojih je nekoliko također bilo od ferobetona.

Kad je o takvim brodovima riječ, ne vrijedi romantika Marijana Bana iz pjesme Ruzinavi brod, ali beton se svejedno dobro drži. Naime, Seaclif State Beach u Aptosu pretrpio je ovog mjeseca devetu uzastopnu razornu oluju koja je Kaliforniji donijela snijeg, a odnijela 19 ljudskih života. No ne i olupinu USS Palo Alto, koja već desetljećima služi kao mjesto za ribolov.

USS Palo Alto je tanker sagrađen godinu prekasno da bi sudjelovao u Prvom svjetskom ratu. Kako je čelik u to vrijeme bio deficitarna roba, kao i uvijek kad život ovisi o oklopu i naoružanju, Palo Alto napravljen je od betona. Konzerviran je do 1929., da bi od tada služio kao splav za zabavu. Savezna država Kalifornija pokušala ga je još jednom obnoviti 1980. godine, baš u vrijeme kad je na našem dijelu Jadrana počeo trend samogradnje jedrilica, od kojih je nekoliko također bilo od ferobetona.

Kad je o takvim brodovima riječ, ne vrijedi romantika Marijana Bana iz pjesme Ruzinavi brod, ali beton se svejedno dobro drži. Naime, Seaclif State Beach u Aptosu pretrpio je ovog mjeseca devetu uzastopnu razornu oluju koja je Kaliforniji donijela snijeg, a odnijela 19 ljudskih života. No ne i olupinu USS Palo Alto, koja već desetljećima služi kao mjesto za ribolov.

USS Palo AltoBetonski tanker desetljećima odolijeva zubu vremena i služi kao mjesto za odličan ribolov

USS Palo Alto je tanker sagrađen godinu prekasno da bi sudjelovao u Prvom svjetskom ratu. Kako je čelik u to vrijeme bio deficitarna roba, kao i uvijek kad život ovisi o oklopu i naoružanju, Palo Alto napravljen je od betona. Konzerviran je do 1929., da bi od tada služio kao splav za zabavu. Savezna država Kalifornija pokušala ga je još jednom obnoviti 1980. godine, baš u vrijeme kad je na našem dijelu Jadrana počeo trend samogradnje jedrilica, od kojih je nekoliko također bilo od ferobetona.

Kad je o takvim brodovima riječ, ne vrijedi romantika Marijana Bana iz pjesme Ruzinavi brod, ali beton se svejedno dobro drži. Naime, Seaclif State Beach u Aptosu pretrpio je ovog mjeseca devetu uzastopnu razornu oluju koja je Kaliforniji donijela snijeg, a odnijela 19 ljudskih života. No ne i olupinu USS Palo Alto, koja već desetljećima služi kao mjesto za ribolov.
